Did you know that Missouri's new booster seat law went into effect August 28, 2006? It requires children who have outgrown a child safety seat to be secured in a booster seat while traveling in a motor vehicle. Children are required to ride in a booster seat until they reach 8 years old or 80 pounds or 57 inches tall. The fine for violating this law is $50.00 plus court costs.
More than 81 percent of child restraints are used incorrectly, including 88 percent of forward-facing toddler seats, 86 percent of rear-facing infant seats and 85 percent of safety belts, as determined at child passenger safety seat inspection stations across the country. (Child Passengers at Risk in America: A National Study of Restraint Use, National SAFE KIDS Campaign, 2002)
The three most common mistakes in installing a child safety seat are:
Not attaching the seat tightly to the car or truck
Not fastening the harness tightly enough
Not using the chest clip or using it incorrectly
Police Station Tours: If you or your group (20 max) would like a tour of our facility, please contact Officer Chris Hunt at 314-587-2868 or by
email. Tours are usually provided during business hours, but we will try to accommodate after hours requests. For tours of the
Town & Country Fire Station located at Clayton and Mason Road, contact the
West County EMS and Fire District.
Each tour includes an explanation of police equipment, arrest and court procedures, and the general services offered by the Police Department. Most areas of the police station will be toured as long as no sensitive business or investigations are being conducted. An average tour is approximately 30 to 40 minutes long.
Tours may be terminated if groups are disruptive; therefore, we ask there be a sufficient number of adults to provide supervision of children. (Return to Top)
Finger Printing: The Town and Country Police Department provides non-criminal fingerprinting services to residents and those employed by businesses within the city limits. Fingerprinting services are usually provided during normal business hours, but we will try to accommodate after hour requests.
Citizens sometimes need to have their fingerprints taken for purposes of employment, professional license applications, expunging records, etc. The person being fingerprinted must bring valid government issued photo identification.
Examples of acceptable government photo identification are:
Current driver's license,
Certificate of Naturalization,
Valid passport,
Alien Registration,
Military identification, or
Identification issued by state, foreign, or local government.
To expedite the fingerprint process, obtain fingerprint cards from your agency and complete all of your personal information on the fingerprint card, in black ink only, prior to your arrival. Electronic or ink method fingerprinting is available and the officer will determine the fingerprint method depending on the availability of fingerprinting equipment and the quality of finger definition.
***We do not keep these fingerprints on file. Therefore, you will be responsible for routing the fingerprint cards to the appropriate agencies.***
Home Security Survey:
: At no cost, your home can be inspected by a representative of our Crime Prevention Unit to help you make your family and your property more secure against burglars and vandals. The first purpose of a Home Security Survey is to identify features in your home or the daily routines of your family which might make your home an easy target for a burglar. The second purpose is to advise you what steps can be taken to eliminate or reduce those hazards.
The security survey begins at your front door, and includes an inspection of all other doors, windows, locks, lights, and landscaping. The inspecting officer compiles a checklist of security weaknesses and hazards that require your attention. This list is then accompanied by recommendations you should employ to reduce the opportunity for crime. The inspection report and recommendations are left entirely with you, and all aspects of the inspection are kept confidential.
To request a FREE security survey of your home, please contact Officer Chris Hunt at 314-587-2868 or by email. (Return to Top)
