What information is available to the public?
According to the Missouri Open Records Law, better known as the “Sunshine Law”, certain information must be released by the department to the public, while other information is prohibited from being released. Information about Missouri’s Sunshine Law may be found in the
Revised Statutes of Missouri, Section 610.100.
Incident Report - defined in the Sunshine Law as “a record of a law enforcement agency consisting of the date, time, specific location, name of the victim and immediate facts and circumstances surrounding the initial report of a crime or incident, including any logs of reported crimes, accidents and complaints maintained by that agency” may be obtained by any member of the public.
Investigative Report – defined in the Sunshine Law as “a record, other than an arrest or incident report, prepared by personnel of a law enforcement agency, inquiring into a crime or suspected crime, either in response to an incident report or in response to evidence developed by law enforcement officers in the course of their duties” may only be obtained by an “interested party” or under other special circumstances. How do I obtain a copy of a police report?
Requests for police reports may be made in person at the Town & Country Police Department or my mail. Requests for police reports will be fulfilled within 5-7 working days and the fee for a copy of a police report is $5 which may be paid in cash, check or money order (payable to The City of Town and Country). If mailing a request, please specify how you would like to receive the report, either by mail or fax.
Requests for police reports, once received, will be evaluated and disseminated to the public in compliance with the Sunshine Law. It is important to establish who is entitled to receive police reports or other information, and the following definitions should provide you with guidance when requesting information from our records section. How do I obtain a police record check?
You must go to the
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Central Police Records in Clayton. You are required to bring your Social Security Card plus one of the following types of identification: Missouri Drivers License, State I.D., Military I.D. or birth certificate. The fee is $9.00 for a police record check. For a detailed recorded message on getting a record check, call

How do I commend or complain about the actions of an officer?
There are several ways in which you can make the Department aware when an employee has done particularly well in performing his or her job. You can:
Appear in person at the Town & Country Police Department
Mail a brief letter to: Chief John Copeland

E-mail the compliment to Chief John Copeland.
Make a verbal commendation by calling Chief Copeland at 314-432-4696.
Please describe the incident and the actions you think were exceptional. If you don't know the officer's name, please include information such as the type of incident, date, time, and location. The Chief will notify our employees of all messages received commending their actions and, where appropriate, may award additional recognition for the employee's actions.
